Biometric data from higi will be integrated with clinical, claims and genomic data from Interpreta under a partnership designed to enable physicians and insurers to create personalized-care “roadmaps” for patients, the companies said.

The partnership—whose value was not disclosed—is intended to promote greater engagement and sharing of healthcare data by physicians and their patients on blood pressure, pulse, BMI, weight, body composition, and self-screening questions.

Data will be obtained at higi’s network of approximately 11,000 FDA-cleared, self-screening health stations, which are designed to capture biometric data from shoppers at locations within food, chain drug, mass merchant and club retailers. Data from those stations can be accessed by users through higi’s mobile and web app, then interpreted and integrated with clinical, claims and genomic data in real time by Interpreta, a San Diego-based healthcare analytics company that synchronizes clinical and genomics data.

“The integration will bring consumers and providers together like never before, giving them access to the same continuously updated healthcare information and non-latent interpretations to make the best choices for care,” Interpreta CEO and Co-founder Ahmed Ghouri, M.D., said in a statement.

The resulting roadmaps are envisioned as informing decisions on patient care as well as increasing engagement with those patients by enabling more sharing of healthcare data with their physicians, in order to close gaps in care more effectively, Interpreta and higi said.

“The face of healthcare is changing. Consumers are looking for more ways to communicate with their doctors and access important personalized medical information,” added higi CEO Jeff Bennett. “By partnering with Interpreta, we are enabling a fundamentally new consumer health experience. Healthcare providers and payers will now have more options to empower consumers and optimize care by identifying risks and intervention opportunities from data collected at our stations in retail settings across the country.”

According to higi, 78% of the U.S. population lives within 5 miles of its health stations, located at retailers that include Ahold Delhaize, Albertsons, Fred’s, H-E-B Grocery Stores, Kroger, Meijer, Publix, Rite Aid, Sam’s Club, Shopko, ShopRite, SuperValu, and Wegmans. More than 43 million consumers have used higi’s health stations, which the company says is the largest such network in North America.

Founded in 2012, Chicago-based higi operates a community platform that links its health stations to more than 80 health devices, activity trackers, and apps. To date, the company says its health stations have conducted more than 228 million biometric screenings, while more than 5.5 million people have signed up for a higi account offering an all-in-one biometric and activity data feed for personal health management and information sharing with friends, family, and providers.
