EDITORIAL TEAM

Damian Doherty, Editor in Chief

With a career spanning twenty-eight years in media and publishing, beginning in 1994 at News Corporation in Wapping, Damian has managed, edited, and launched life science titles in drug discovery and precision medicine. He was Feature Editor of the Drug Discovery World for fourteen years and founded, established, and edited the Journal of Precision Medicine in 2014. In parallel, Damian founded and organized the Precision Medicine Leaders’ Summit, a global, immersive 3-day senior leadership conference that still runs today. He edited AIMed magazine in 2019 before launching Photo51Media, a platform for illuminating untold, compelling stories in precision healthcare. Damian joined Mary Ann Liebert in 2021 to help steer the new rebrand and relaunch of Clinical OMICS to Inside Precision Medicine.

Kevin Davies, Ph.D., Editor at Large

Kevin has three decades’ experience in science publishing as an editor, journalist, author, and publisher. He is the founding editor of Nature Genetics and Bio-IT World magazine and served as Editor-in-Chief of Cell Press and the publisher of Chemical & Engineering News.

Kevin is the author of four popular science books, including Cracking the Genome, The $1,000 Genome, and an updated version of DNA: The Story of the Genetic Revolution with James D. Watson and Andrew Berry. In 2017, Kevin won a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship in science writing to support a new book, Editing Humanity, published in September 2020. That same year, he joined Mary Ann Liebert Inc. to spearhead the launch of The CRISPR Journal and bolster the GEN editorial team.

Kevin holds a degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London. He held postdoctoral fellowships at MIT and Harvard Medical School before joining the editorial staff at Nature. He still clings to a British accent.

Corinna Singleman, Managing Editor

Corinna joined the IPM and GEN teams in 2024 as a passionate science communicator. She earned her PhD in Biology from The Graduate Center, CUNY, studying the impacts of PCBs and TCDD contamination in the Hudson River on endangered Atlantic surgeon and zebrafish. Her strong educational background in STEM and continuous commitment to educating and informing a broad audience have equipped her with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, accessible content. She uses this experience to bridge the ever-widening gap between the scientific community and the rest of the world by teaching, writing, and working on projects that directly impact others. Corinna is dedicated to promoting effective communication that fosters collaboration across diverse teams and organizations.

In her free time, Corinna enjoys hiking, foraging, kickboxing, creating art, and spending time with her family.

Alex Philippidis, Senior Business Editor

Alex specializes in biopharma business news and industry issues for GEN. He joined GEN in 2011 after four years at GenomeWeb, where he covered research institutes and spent three years following biotech economic development as editor of the weekly newsletter BioRegion News. Alex reports various news stories for GEN and Clinical OMICs and compiles the popular A-Lists series.

Alex worked for more than 20 years for various newspapers covering business, science, the Navy, and general-interest news. He has been interviewed and quoted by news outlets, including the New York Times and the BBC. He enjoys solving crossword puzzles, watching classic TV game shows, and traveling with his family.

Julianna LeMieux, PhD, Senior Science Writer

Julianna received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Microbiology from Tufts University School of Medicine. She studied Streptococcus pneumoniae, then a postdoc at MIT, working on the nematode C. elegans. She then spent several years teaching as an assistant professor, during which she realized her passion for science communication. She has been writing since and joined the editorial team at GEN in 2018.

She served as a faculty member in the Citizen Science program at Bard College both on campus and at the Taconic Correctional Facility through the Bard prison initiative. She currently teaches microbiology at City College of New York.

Julianna lives in New York and loves exploring the city with her family. She crossed the finish line of the NYC marathon in 2017 and 2018.

Helen Albert, Senior Editor

Helen Albert is Senior Editor at Inside Precision Medicine and a freelance science journalist. Before going freelance, she was Editor-in-Chief at Labiotech, an English-language digital publication based in Berlin focusing on the European biotech industry. Before moving to Germany, she worked at different science and health-focused publications in London. She was Editor of The Biochemist magazine and blog, worked as a Senior Reporter at Springer Nature’s medwireNews for several years, and freelanced for various international publications. She has written for New Scientist, Chemistry World, Biodesigned, The BMJ, Forbes, Science Business, Cosmos magazine, and GEN. Helen has academic degrees in genetics and anthropology and spent some time early in her career working at the Sanger Institute in Cambridge before deciding to move into journalism.

Mike May, Contributing Editor

Mike May earned a B.A. in biology from Earlham College, an M.S. in biological engineering from the University of Connecticut, and a Ph.D. in neurobiology and behavior from Cornell University. His work can be found in many leading publications, including NatureScienceScientific American, and many others. He also worked for seven years as an associate editor at American Scientist, and he was the editor of Scientific American Worldview.

Malorye Allison Branca, Contributing Editor

Malorye Allison Branca is an award-winning medical science writer who has been reporting on health care topics for more than 20 years. She specializes in spotting key trends and breakthroughs in medicine, science, health IT, and health delivery. She has launched numerous magazines, newsletters, and websites and has helped craft editorials for physicians, business leaders, and a Nobel Peace Laureate. These op-eds have run in medical journals, The Wall Street Journal, and other notable publications. She is the co-author of the 2017 book Moneyball Medicine.
